To promote the “double first-class” construction of College of New Energy and Environment (CNEE) of Jilin University, meet the objective needs of teaching under the regular pandemic situation, strengthen the construction of international-level graduate curriculum, and offer international elaborate online courses to postgraduate of CNEE, the College invited Prof. Lin Lan of Concordia University in Canada to give 10 online lectures on Statics. Prof. Lin is an expert in Statics who has won the “Best Lecture Award” twice at Concordia University.

Statics is not only a basic course for students majoring in Civil Engineering, but also closely related to our daily life. Because students are generally weak in Mechanics, Prof. Lin adopted the method of simplifying to enable students to grasp the basic points of Mechanics in the limited class hours. Taught in English is another challenge for students. Although most students have passed the CET-4 and CET-6, it is the first time for them to meet with such a large number of English technical terms. To better help students overcome language barriers, Prof. Lin has marked the key terms in each class in bilingual, so that students can follow the lecture and review after class. In addition, Prof. Lin sends out the slides to the students before each class to facilitate them to preview and to the point. After class, the lecture notes will be uploaded, which greatly helps the students to figure out the gaps and improve their efficiency.

Through these online lectures, students have deepened their understanding of Statics. Furthermore, students improved their English ability, mastered a large number of Mechanics vocabulary, felt the high-intensity teaching mode of North American Universities, and broadened their international visions.
